UK named top oncology program by Becker's Hospital Review – UKNow

LEXINGTON, Ky. (Jan. 12, 2023) – The University of Kentucky Albert B. Chandler Hospital is one of the nation’s top “60 Hospitals and Health Systems with Great Oncology Programs” according to Becker’s Hospital Review.
The health care industry trade publication recognized UK Markey Cancer Center, whose clinical programs are integrated with UK Chandler Hospital, among oncology programs at the forefront of cancer treatment and research.
The Becker’s Hospital Review editorial team selected hospitals for inclusion based on nominations rankings and awards they have received from a variety of reputable sources, including National Cancer Institute designations and U.S. News & World Report cancer rankings.
The Markey Cancer Center has been a National Cancer Institute-designated cancer center since 2013, the only one in Kentucky and one of just 71 in the country. In 2022, Markey moved up to No. 33 in its U.S. News Top 50 national ranking for cancer care, making it the sixth consecutive year Markey has been ranked in the U.S. News Top 50.
According to Becker’s Hospital Review, organizations included on the 2023 list are on the cutting edge of novel therapies and research to improve outcomes and access to care, and have invested in growing oncology departments and regional cancer centers to provide an important service to patients locally and nationally.
As the state’s flagship, land-grant institution, the University of Kentucky exists to advance the Commonwealth. We do that by preparing the next generation of leaders — placing students at the heart of everything we do — and transforming the lives of Kentuckians through education, research and creative work, service and health care. We pride ourselves on being a catalyst for breakthroughs and a force for healing, a place where ingenuity unfolds. It’s all made possible by our people — visionaries, disruptors and pioneers — who make up 200 academic programs, a $501 million research and development enterprise and a world-class medical center, all on one campus.
In 2022, UK was ranked by Forbes as one of the “Best Employers for New Grads” and named a “Diversity Champion” by INSIGHT into Diversity, a testament to our commitment to advance Kentucky and create a community of belonging for everyone. While our mission looks different in many ways than it did in 1865, the vision of service to our Commonwealth and the world remains the same. We are the University for Kentucky.
