Tasmania have leapt to the top of the Women’s National Cricket League table after an emphatic seven-wicket victory over Queensland at Allan Border Field.
Elyse Villani made short work of the chase after the reigning champions bowled out a Queensland side missing stars Jess Jonassen, Grace Harris and Georgia Redmayne for 132, smashing an unbeaten 57 off 48 deliveries to steer her side home in 17.2 overs.
Villani promoted herself to the top of the order in place of Rachel Trenaman, who suffered a knee injury in Wednesday’s first clash against the Fire and found the boundary 10 times in an aggressive knock that helped her side secure a bonus point.
She lost opening partner Lizelle Lee (5) early and was involved in a mix-up that saw Nicola Carey (21 off 16) run out, but was joined by Emma Manix-Geeves (29 off 27) to seal their second win in three days.
Earlier, Carey (3-27) and Sarah Coyte (2-14) led the way with the ball as Queensland were dismissed for 132 in 37.5 overs.
After losing openers Georgia Voll (7) and Charli Knott (22), the Fire had recovered to 2-70, but proceeded to lose 7-31.
The collapse started when Ellie Johnston (17) was run out, before Mikayla Hinkley (22) was bowled by Nicola Carey an over later.
Ruth Johnston (1), Laura Harris (4), Courtney Sippel (2), Georgia Prestwidge (3) and Nicola Hancock (4) all departed for single-digit scores as Queensland crumbled to 9-101.
A fighting 31-run final-wicket stand between Caitlyn Mair (20no) and Grace Parsons (14) added important runs.
Tasmania and Queensland are now level on 24 points apiece on the table, but the Tigers have two games in hand and sit in top position thanks to a superior net run rate.
