SKY SECURES ADDITION TO CRICKET PORTFOLIO – Sport Industry Group

04 Jan 2023
UK pay-television broadcaster Sky Sports has announced a new five-year rights deal with the South Africa T20 (SA20) cricket league.
The competition, which begins on 10th January 2023, will last four weeks and include 33 matches broadcast across Sky Sports Cricket channels for the first time.
The latest deal sees Sky expand its cricket portfolio which already includes international Test cricket, international T20 cricket and the IPL.
The SA20 league features six privately-owned teams, that play each other twice in a round-robin stage before the semis and final, live on Sky Sports. SA20 has the backing of some of the most recognised T20 franchises in the world, with several IPL strongholds branching out to establish an even greater international footprint.
The competing teams also include some of England’s World Cup winning squad, including Jos Buttler and the IPL’s most expensive player, Sam Curran.
Bryan Henderson, Director of Cricket at Sky Sports, commented, “We are thrilled to add the SA20 to our portfolio of cricket rights. We believe it will be a terrific competition with some of the best English players involved.”
Sky Sports will also broadcast the three England men’s ODI’s taking place in South Africa on the 27th and 29th of January, and 1st February.
