Castries, Saint Lucia: The 2023 Gros Islet Domestic Cricket Tournament sponsored by District Representative; Kenson Casimir got on the way on Wednesday, January 25 at the Gros Islet Playing Field in Saint Lucia.
In the absence of Minister Casimir who is currently off island on official duties, attaché to the Minister Miss Nicola d’Auvergne declared the tournament open by bowling the first ball.
In the opening match, GOODMAN WARRIORS earned a hard-fought 5-wicket victory over EDWARD BLASTERS.
Batting first, EDWARD BLASTERS made 199 for 8 in their allotted 20 overs, with Kester Charlemagne top scoring with 60, comprising of 6 fours and 2 sixes, Jehan Boodha 31, captain Stavone Gabriel 29, Joshua Cepal 25, Keon Gaston 16 not out and Stuart Calderon 10.
The wicket takers for GOODMAN WARRIORS were; female player Qiana Joseph with 3 for 33 in 4 overs and 1 wicket each to Rene Montoute, Tyler Sookwa and Jamaal James.
In reply, GOODMAN WARRIORS finished on 202 for 5 in 19 overs, with captain Jard Goodman leading the way with 59, inclusive of 6 fours and 3 sixes, Noel Leo 47, Jamaal James 35 not out and Zidane Arthur 20.
The wicket takers for EDWARD BLASTERS were; Keon Gaston with 3 for 41 in 4 overs and one wicket each Stavone Gabriel and Kester Charlemagne. The man of match was adjudged by Youth and Sports Officer in the Ministry of Youth Development and Sports, Clivus Jules.
The awardee was JARD GOODMAN for his match-winning inning of 59. He received a monetary award for his effort. The tournament continues on Thursday, with MELIUS CHALLENGERS coming up against defending champions; GERSON STRIKERS from 6:00 pm at the Gros Islet Playing Field.

The 2023 Gros Islet Domestic Cricket Tournament, sponsored by District Rep. the Honorable Kenson Casimir bowls off on Wednesday January 25 from 6:00 pm at the Gros Islet Playing Field.
Four senior teams namely GERSON STRIKERS, GOODMAN WARRIORS, MELIUS CHALLENGERS and EDWARD BLASTERS will complete for the District Representative 20/20 and 50 over Championship.
Two Development teams made up of male players 15 years and under together with female under 19 players will play a number of matches during the tournament.
The Gros Islet Cricket Association will also have two younger Development team ages 13 years and under engaged in a series of exhibition games.
Game #1 on Wednesday, January 25 will see GOODMAN WARRIORS coming up against EDWARD BLASTERS @ 6:00 pm in a 20/20 match.
On Thursday January 26 MELIUS CHALLENGERS will face defending champions GERSON STRIKERS @ 6:00pm in another 20/20 match. The 50 over matches take place on weekends.
