Battered, bruised and the laughing stock of the country’s sporting community, South African cricket has taken shots from all corners over the last few weeks following a woeful tour of Australia.
The Proteas Tests side is rudderless. The ODI side, facing the very real possibility of missing out on qualification for the 2023 World Cup in India, is not faring much better. There is no full-time coach in any of the three major formats presently, and concerns over the current and future states of the game are fully justified.
The worry is that Proteas cricket is showing signs of slipping even further down the international pecking order, with the gulf in quality between them and the big four of India, Australia, England and New Zealand seemingly growing.
