Attention enlisted members: If you’re a reservist with a demonstrated ability to perform a cyber role to Department of Defense (DoD) standards, the Coast Guard might have a new job for you.
Coast Guard reserve leadership has collaborated with the Office of Cyberspace Forces to develop reserve cyber positions and is accepting applications until Feb. 16, for the following three teams:
These teams will be made up of enlisted members with cyber mission specialist (CMS) or information systems (IS) ratings, chief warrant officers with the cyber mission manager (CMM) specialty, and commissioned officers. To qualify on the enlisted side, you’ll need to submit a request for a lateral change in rating (CIR) or change in specialty (CIS), as outlined below.
The new CMS and CMM reserves are designed to bolster cybersecurity for the service’s networks and the Marine Transportation System (MTS).
"This initiative is coming to fruition at just the right time thanks to broad organizational support,” said Lt. Cmdr. Matthew Vanderslice. “The Coast Guard has historically maximized use of the current reservists at Coast Guard Cyber; this effort will ensure more members have opportunities to support the organization outside of an active duty status.”
Who qualifies?
In order to be eligible for these positions, you must be:
You must be in compliance with COMDTINST M1000 rules for enlistments, evaluations, and advancements and for military assignments and authorized absences. You also will need to have completed foundational cyber operations training such as the Joint Cyber Analysis Course (JCAC) or possess the cyber certifications like Informational Assurance Management/ Information Assurance Technical (IAM/IAT) or Cyber Security Service Provider (CSSP) and commensurate professional experience outlined in the Establishment of Cyber Reserve Component and Reserve Cyber Enlisted and Chief Warrant Officer Solicitation ALCOAST 460/22.

The Office of Cyberspace Forces anticipates completing candidate selections on or around March 13, with announcements to be made around March 20. Note that this solicitation and candidate selection may trigger assignment action and will be communicated by PSC-RPM reserve assignment officers in separate communication.
