A Queensland man has been jailed for 12 years for child abuse material offences after a tip-off from US authorities.
The 30-year-old from Morayfield, north of Brisbane, pleaded guilty to eight offences, including making child exploitation material and engaging in sexual activity with a child outside of Australia.
He will be eligible for parole after six years.
The man was arrested in April 2021 after the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children in the US alerted Australian Federal Police about an account uploading child abuse material to a messaging platform.
Police used the account to identify the man and arrested him.
They found abuse material on his phone, as well as a second phone later discovered in his home.
The man was found to be in contact with a Florida woman who was allegedly abusing a child.
That woman was also arrested in April 2021 by US Homeland Security, and "the child rescued from further abuse", police said.
AFP Detective Acting Superintendent Kurt Wesche said international networks were vital to protect children both in Australia and overseas.
"It takes a network to break a network, which is why these international partnerships are essential to our goal in stopping child exploitation and sexual abuse," he said.
