Promotion contention for SKZN cricket – South Coast Herald

This past weekend Southern KwaZulu-Natal played top of the table Harlequins in a 50 over Challenge League cricket match at Port Shepstone Country Club.
Southern KZN lost the toss and bowled first and from the first ball were on fire with captain Cody Mortimer striking early.
It was then the spinners that kept it tight, restricting the visitors to 92 all out.
Gershion Lawrence (2 for 24) and Jayden Scholtz (5 for 21) were the pick of the spin bowlers.
Southern KZN then, with ease chased down the target in under 20 overs giving them a bonus point, five wicket win.
Mortimer hit some big sixes on his way to a score of 54.
The win moves Southern KZN into the top three on the log and despite some unfortunate rain-outs have put themselves into the promotion race.
DOMESTIC CRICKET
The second half of season started last Sunday with two divisions and a record 14 clubs entering the league. Cricket was entertaining and a special mention to a league record 10th wicket stand of 92 between Juandre Meyer and 70-year-old David Starkie, who proved age is just a number.
Yusuf Moosa also had a day to remember, taking eight wickets in his first game back to cricket in over five years.
The Mustangs and Vikings game was played in amazing spirit with amazing support from friends and family and the noise of the crowd was similar to any Dolphins games at times.
Knockouts Cricket Club, the defending champions, showed they won’t be giving up their crown anytime soon and new boys Legends CC had an incredible first outing with a win.
