Malcolm Cloete signs for Chard Cricket Club for 2023 season … – Chard & Ilminster News

CHARD Cricket Club has announced its first signing of 2023 ahead of the upcoming cricket season.
South African fast bowling allrounder Malcolm Cloete has joined the club, signing on from Heathcote CC in Devon.
In a statement on social media, Chard Cricket Club said: “Exciting news as promised earlier back in October 2023, Chard have secured the signing of the highly rated South African fast bowling allrounder Malcolm Cloete for the 2023 WEPL Somerset league campaign.
“Malcolm was the leading wicket taker in the Devon Premier League last season with Heathcote CC and brings a wealth of experience from both South Africa and previous English summers.”
Club chairman, Lee Brun said he was: “Delighted about signing Malcolm for next season and it shows the intent of the club to improve on last years’ league position with a quality player.”
Chard Cricket Club start their WEPL Somerset season with a home game against Wellington CC on Saturday, May 6.
Also in May is the big local derby between Chard and Yeovil, set to be played on Saturday, May 20.
The fixtures for the Somerset Cricket Leagues which include other teams at Chard CC, are yet to be released.
Further cup competition fixtures are yet to be announced but will be in due course, most likely in the New Year.
