MCA Stadium in Pune.
After a thrilling 1st T20I in Mumbai, the caravan of India vs Sri Lanka T20I series has reached the MCA Stadium in Pune. If India can win this match, they will win the series, whereas it is a do-or-die match for the Sri Lankan side.
The MCA Stadium in Pune hosted a lot of IPL 2022 matches this year, and this will be the 4th international T20I here. It will be interesting to see how the pitch will fare in this match. The last T20I at this venue was played way back in 2020 between India and Sri Lanka only.
The first match in Mumbai proved that this series is going to be a competitive one where both India and Sri Lanka look equally strong on paper. India’s record in their home conditions is great, but they cannot take the Sri Lankan team lightly which won the Asia Cup 2022.
The MCA Stadium has been loved by the batters due to the nature of the pitch here, but the stats here in international matches does not prove the same. A total of 3 T20Is have been played here so far, where the average 1st innings score has been just 153 runs. Out of three, two matches have been won by the chasing teams.
The average 1st innings score in T20 domestic matches here has been 162 runs. Although, this pitch is way better for batting than these numbers suggest.
The highest T20I chase in Pune has been achieved by India against England in 2012. England scored 157/6 in the 1st innings courtesy of a half-century from Alex Hales. Yuvraj Singh took three wickets for the Indian team. India chased the target in just 17.5 overs with five wickets to spare.
Overall, the highest T20 chase here is under the name of Gujarat Lions against Rising Pune Supergiants during IPL 2016. Pune scored 195/3 with help of a century from Steve Smith. Gujarat chased the target with three wickets to spare where Dwayne Smith scored a half-century for the side.
