Jenson Brooksby at Australian Open 2023: Meet American tennis talent who defeats second seed Casper Ruud – Economic Times

1922 was the first time the Australian Open had women participate, with Margaret Molesworth from New South Wales winning the tournament; she also won in 1923.

Over the years, many have won the cup, with Daphne Akhurst winning five trophies in the 1920s.

The Open named their trophy after Akhurst, in recognition of her many achievements; with the most recent winner young talent Naomi Osaka.

Next year, the women’s semifinal matches are set to move to the night session on Thursday, 27 January 2022.
