Hurricanes star’s hattrick stuns Thunder after Meredith’s ‘seed of the year’ — BBL LIVE – Fox Sports

The Hurricanes have recorded a comfortable victory after a dominant bowling performance which saw superstar David Warner dismissed for a duck while Nathan Ellis took a hattrick.
Meredith put his best foot forward to win “seed of the year” with an in-swinging delivery which rattled into Warner’s stumps on his second ball as the Thunder posted only 135.
The 26-year-old’s impressive ball left Fox Cricket’s commentators stunned and Kerry O’Keeffee was confident fans won’t see a better delivery in the BBL.

“How good is this, full, fast, shape, to get one of the world’s best batsmen out like that, oh what a feeling,” Fox Cricket’s Brett Lee said.
“Seam position, bolt upright, beat him for pace, too good.
“That’s candidate for ‘Jaffa’ off the season,” Fox Cricket’s Kerry O’Keeffe said.
“Seed of the year, in Big Bash, surely.”
Meredith finished with the impressive figures of 2/14, while Ellis’ 4/27 stole the show.
The 28-year-old took his hattrick across two overs, bagging the wickets of Matt Gilkes on the final ball of his first over before returning 10 overs later.
Ellis then grabbed the wickets of Ollie Davies (45) and Nathan McAndrew (0) to complete his hattrick — and he clearly had no idea he’s achieved the rare feat.
“I don’t know if he has got a hattrick here,” Fox Cricket’s Brett Lee said.
“That’s not a hattrick celebration, I don’t think they know,” Fox Cricket’s Dan Ginnane said.
Ellis had a chance to take a double hattrick, but Chris Green was able to keep the ball out as the Thunder sat 7/81 midway through the 14th over.
Hobart then went about chasing the mediocre total, but Sydney all-rounder Daniel Sams proved to be a difficult man to face.
The seamer finished with 4/18 from his four overs, but it wasn’t enough to get his side the win.
Tim David shone with the bat, belting 76 from only 41 balls while Matt Wade played a supporting role (30 off 22).
Following the Hurricanes victory, they have leaped the Thunder on the BBL ladder to slot into fifth place as the Sydney side drop out of the finals positions.
