Raipur’s Shaheed Veer Narayan Singh International Stadium.
Raipur’s Shaheed Veer Narayan Singh International Stadium recently hosted the 2nd ODI between India and New Zealand, and it was the very first international match at the venue. With this match, Raipur became the 50th venue in India to host an ODI.
India defeated New Zealand by 8 wickets to register an easy win. India is a huge country, and it is safe to say that no country has more international stadiums than India. Before hosting India vs New Zealand 3rd ODI, Raipur hosted a few IPL games as well.
Mumbai’s Gymkhana Stadium hosted the first international match in India from 15-18 December, 1933. England defeated India in that match by 9 wickets to take 1-0 lead in the series. It is interesting that it was the only international match on this ground.
A total of 53 stadiums in India have hosted an international match so far. Out of 53, only 25 are active stadiums. Greater Noida Sports Complex and Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium (Dehradun) have not hosted any international games of India as they were allocated as the home ground to Afghanistan Cricket Team.
53 is a very huge number as some of the countries do not even combine to have such a huge tally of stadiums. A lot of new stadiums are also being made around the country, and the number will just keep on increasing.
