Below is the message posted on the Board’s social media platforms
The Guyana Cricket Board (GCB) congratulates opening batsman Matthew Nandu for scoring a century on his First Class debut against Barbados Pride at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium in Antigua.
Nandu became just the fourth Guyanese to score a century on debut since 1966. The diminutive opener brought up his century just before lunch off 295 balls hitting 13 boundaries.
The 19-year-old joins Stephen Camacho (106) versus Trinidad and Tobago in 1966, Carl Hooper (126) against Barbados in 1985 and Sudesh Dhaniram (102) against Barbados in 1987.
It should also be noted that Edward Wright and Joseph Solomon scored centuries on debut for British Guiana in 1882 and 1956 respectively.
