We’ll remember your choice for next time
Former Australian Test seamer Chadd Sayers has named his top seven cricket grounds in the world.
While Sayers only played one Test for his nation, he has an impressive 322 First Class wickets to his name and was one of the Sheffield Shield’s best bowlers across the last decade.
Having played at some of the grounds while admiring others from afar, the South Australian compiled his top seven in order with number one his favourite.
7 – The Wanderers
Johannesburg, South Africa
“It’s a beautiful ground, where I made my Test debut,” Sayers told Sportsday SA.
“It’s close to my heart … (walking out) was just after Sandpaper, but it was a packed house on Day 1 and we bowled first and I was fielding on the outer side at fine leg – there were a lot of drunk people and a lot of abuse came my way.”
6 – Galle International Cricket Stadium
Galle, Sri Lanka
“I just love the surroundings.
“It’s near a beach, the crowd watches from the hill, it’s sensational.
“To watch that on TV is awesome.”
5 – Eden Gardens
Kolkata, India
“It’s one of the biggest in International cricket, they’ve had over 100,000 in crowds.
“When India play there, it’s packed, the atmosphere, you’ll see nothing like it.
“I’ve been there but haven’t played, we got washed out that game. Unbelievable ground.”
4 – Lord’s
London, England
“I haven’t played at Lord’s, but I’ve been there a few times.
“It’s a traditionalist’s ground, any cricketer or fan you’d know why.
“The characteristics with the slope, I would have loved to have bowled there.”
3 – MCG
Melbourne, Australia
“The MCG, an iconic Australian ground.
“It can hold 100,000 people, we saw that at the World Cup when Pakistan played India.
“Unbelievable, Boxing Day Tests, you can’t get much better than the MCG.”
2 – Newlands
Cape Town, South Africa
“Probably not the most beautiful cricket ground, but for anyone who knows it, if you look from east to west you just see this beautiful mountain in the background.
“I was lucky enough to be on a South African tour and I didn’t play that game but we got to train on the centre wicket and I got a few photographs … it was spectacular.”
1 – Adelaide Oval
Adelaide, Australia
“I can’t go past the Adelaide Oval.
“It’s always number one in my eyes, the surroundings – the churches, the crowds are always the best.
“It’s the best Test match of the summer and half of my wickets are at Adelaide Oval as well.
“It’s beloved, the heritage as well.”
