Cohesity consolidates its position in enterprise-class cybersecurity … – SiliconANGLE News

The current ransomware threat landscape has moved beyond just securing infrastructures from the edge, through firewalls and other networking layers.
Data security/management solutions provider Cohesity Inc. is innovating on this idea through DataHawk, a newly announced offering strengthening the company’s net data protection capabilities.
“If you think about all the pillars that we provide in terms of data solutions, we have data protection, data security, data access, data mobility and data insights,” said Amith Nair (pictured), senior vice president and general manager of cloud at Cohesity. “Generally, when customers think about security, they think about starting with security at the perimeter, on the edge. But, in the end, what they’re really trying to protect is the data. DataHawk was formulated and built in order to help extend our existing solutions to provide additional security layers.”
Nair spoke with theCUBE industry analysts John Furrier and Paul Gillin at the recent AWS re:Invent conference, during an exclusive broadcast on theCUBE, SiliconANGLE Media’s livestreaming studio. They discussed emerging ransomware tactics and how Cohesity’s offerings, such as DataHawk and FortKnox, are poised to thwart them. (* Disclosure below.)
As it stands, malicious ransomware actors have now innovated their craft to strike at both the production and backup data and systems simultaneously. And with these attacks happening every 11 seconds, companies have to be more proactive than ever before, according to Nair.
“The target early on used to be the network or the firewall. Now, it is the backup,” he said. “So you have to be very smart about how you protect your backup. And if you do get attacked, it’s not about just preventing it. How can you be resilient in the case of an attack?”
In response to this trend, Cohesity launched FortKnox, its cyber vaulting solution, earlier in 2022,  according to Nair.
“It’s an air gap solution with high-level capabilities,” he added. “Extremely liked by customers, very well adopted, and we extended that to provide lots more data classification capabilities and ransomware checks as well — so malware checks in the product itself in terms of what it is being backed up.”
