Dawid Malan plays through the off-side at Newlands.
The first match of the inaugural season of SA20 will be played between MI Cape Town and Paarl Royals in Cape Town tonight. Newlands, whose last international match in the form of a South Africa-India ODI had been played almost a year ago, will be hosting a T20 after more than a couple of years.
A tournament which has a lot of Indian Premier League influence will be hoping to get off the mark in the same manner like IPL did 15 years ago. Assuming that the same happens, it will be quite an unparalleled start for SA20 2023.

Having said that, for that to happen, someone out of Jofra Archer, Dewald Brevis, Sam Curran, Liam Livingstone, Kagiso Rabada, Rashid Khan, Jos Buttler, David Miller and Jason Roy will have to take centrestage unless a lesser known name dominates proceedings in a match which will be remembered for the years to come.

The record for the highest successful T20 run-chase at the Newlands belongs to England for them chasing down a 192-run target with nine wickets and 14 balls in hand against South Africa a couple of years ago.
Born and brought up in Pathankot, Dixit Bhargav is an engineering and sports management graduate who is currently into his fifth year as a Cricket Editor at The SportsRush. His first cricketing memory dates back to 2002 when former India captain Sourav Ganguly had waved his jersey at the historic Lord’s balcony. What followed for an 8-year-old was an instant adulation for both Ganguly and the sport. The optimist in him is waiting for the day when Punjab Kings will win their maiden Indian Premier League title. When not watching cricket, he is mostly found in a cinema hall watching a Punjabi movie.
