Alex de Minaur headed into his contest against nine-time Australian Open champion Novak Djokovic with the hope of the nation on his shoulders after being the only Aussie left standing in the singles tournament.

It was a cruel end to the young gun’s impressive run at his home slam with the first meeting between the pair being painfully one-sided, as Djokovic edged ever closer to matching Rafael Nadal’s record 22 grand slam titles.
