An 18-year old from Victoria has been diagnosed with meningococcal after attending Schoolies celebrations in Queensland.
The Victorian Department of Health issued an alert, saying the teen had been in the town of Maroochydore, and warning that anybody who was at venues in the area between November 26 and December 2 should be alert for symptoms.
They include sudden onset of fever, headache, neck stiffness, joint pain, a rash of red-purple spots or bruises, dislike of bright lights, nausea and vomiting.
"People who suspect symptoms of this disease should immediately seek medical attention – early treatment for meningococcal is life-saving," Victoria's Deputy Chief Health Officer Deborah Friedman said.
Children under five and those aged 15 to 25 are at the greatest risk from the disease.
Victoria has reported 14 cases of meningococcal so far in 2022.
