Comcast suffers financial loss in 4Q – Sports Business Journal

Peacock “grew its revenue and subscribers” in Q4, but its losses “widened again compared with the year-ago period,” according to Georg Szalai of the HOLLYWOOD REPORTER. The financials were detailed in Comcast’s earnings report for the final period of 2022, and management reiterated that Peacock’s loss would “peak this year, predicting a loss” of $3B. Meanwhile, U.S. paid subs for Peacock “surpassed the 20 million mark as of the end of 2022.” Comcast had previously reported that Peacock’s paid subscribers in the U.S. had “surpassed 15 million” as of the end of Q3, meaning it “added around 5 million in the final quarter of 2022.” This marks its “strongest quarterly gain” since Peacock’s launch in 2020. Comcast in its Q4 financial report also posted NBCUniversal earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization that fell 36.3% to $817M from $1.28B amid “higher expenses, even though revenue rose” 5.9% to $9.89B. Comcast advertising revenue increased 4% in Q4, “primarily due to incremental revenue from the FIFA World Cup, as well as an increase in Peacock advertising revenue.” That included $263M in “incremental ad revenue from the World Cup” (HOLLYWOOD REPORTER, 1/26).
