Hadleigh Cricket Club members walked across Essex to raise funds to update the ladies’ changing rooms and facilities, to support their growing youth and women’s’ teams.
They voyaged from Hadleigh in Suffolk to Hadleigh in south Essex, covering 46 miles, and braving a storm as they went.
Setting off at 5am, they navigated country roads, pavements and footpaths they eventually arrived at Hadleigh and Thundersley Cricket Club at 7.30pm.
Alastair Graham, club’s Secretary, said: “We are delighted that we all completed the walk and to have so far raised £4,500. It was a tough day starting around 5am and we were caught in a big storm seven miles from the finish which was very challenging to push through and finish by 7.30pm.
“The money raised is going towards two significant projects, refurbishing our antiquated 1970s changing rooms to include a disabled ladies’ toilet and changing area, and towards new outdoor training facilities to benefit our growing youth membership and our building a women’s cricket team.”
There were six walkers aged 23 to 54 including Ryan Funnell, Rory Blackaby, Luke Smith, Oliver Smith, Neil Dobson and Alastair Graham.
The club has a growing youth membership with over 125 young people including boys and girls who play cricket from age five upwards.
