Charles joins Cricket Scotland after nearly twenty years at the forefront of the sports media sector. Much of that time was spent as a journalist with Sky Sports, where he became a well-known face on TV screens in his role as Scotland correspondent for Sky Sports News.
His work across multiple sports and major events saw him report live and break news across the UK and beyond, including at UEFA Euro 2020 and the FIFA 2019 Women’s World Cup in football, the Ryder and Solheim Cups in golf, and the 2014 Commonwealth Games.
His freelance career has included collaboration with a number of media outlets including Premier Sports, The Times, The Daily Mail and Premier League Productions, as well as offering media consultancy and strategic PR guidance.
Most recently, Charles acted as Digital Consultant for Rugby League World Cup 2021, which took place in England during the autumn. The Men’s, Women’s and Wheelchair World Cups were staged concurrently for the first time over five weeks, making it the most inclusive tournament ever held in the sport.
Charles also brings with him a deep love of cricket; having played for Carlton and West of Scotland earlier in life, he’s now a qualified ECB Level One coach.
Cricket Scotland CEO Gordon Arthur said “This is a hugely important appointment for Cricket Scotland, not only because Charles is an experienced and talented communicator, who also happens to love cricket, but also because Cricket Scotland has desperately needed to communicate more effectively on a whole range of subjects.
“In particular, strong, positive and open communication needs to be at the heart of rebuilding the sport following the publication of the report into racism in Cricket in Scotland last July and I am confident Charles will lead this work with purpose and sensitivity.”
