Dinesh Karthik had powered India to victory in the last Rajkot T20I.
International cricket has returned to Rajkot less than seven months after the city hosted an India-South Africa T20I last year. In what will be another T20I, it is the turn of an India-Sri Lanka series-decider to be played here tomorrow.
Considering how the first and second T20Is of this series have been decided in the last over, fans in the city would be wanting for the last T20I to also follow this pattern in a bid to witness a cliffhanger finish on a Saturday night.
In what is going to be the fifth T20I at the Saurashtra Cricket Association Stadium, India have won three and lost one match till date. On the contrary, Sri Lanka haven’t played a single match at this stadium in all their years of touring India.
Highest run-scorers in Rajkot T20Is are Colin Munro (109), Rohit Sharma (98), Virat Kohli (94), Aaron Finch (89) and Yuvraj Singh (77). Indian players part of the current squad to have scored some T20I runs at this venue are Hardik Pandya (47), Ishan Kishan (27), Axar Patel (13), Ruturaj Gaikwad (5) and Harshal Patel (1).

Highest T20I wicket-takers at the Saurashtra Cricket Association Stadium are Yuzvendra Chahal (5), Avesh Khan (4), Trent Boult (4), R Vinay Kumar (3) and Bhuvneshwar Kumar (3). Harshal Patel (1), Washington Sundar (1) and Axar Patel (1) are current Indian cricketers who have T20I wickets under their belt here.
T20I innings totals in excess of 200 have been registered twice in eight innings at the Saurashtra Cricket Association Stadium thus far. Readers must note that the highest innings totals here is also the highest successful run-chase possible due former India all-rounder Yuvraj’s match-winning half-century comprising eight fours and five sixes at a strike rate of 220 in the inaugural Rajkot T20I.
Overall, teams batting first and second at this stadium have won two T20Is each.
Born and brought up in Pathankot, Dixit Bhargav is an engineering and sports management graduate who is currently into his fifth year as a Cricket Editor at The SportsRush. His first cricketing memory dates back to 2002 when former India captain Sourav Ganguly had waved his jersey at the historic Lord’s balcony. What followed for an 8-year-old was an instant adulation for both Ganguly and the sport. The optimist in him is waiting for the day when Punjab Kings will win their maiden Indian Premier League title. When not watching cricket, he is mostly found in a cinema hall watching a Punjabi movie.
