Bangladesh's 1st assignment in 2023 is against England at home
Bangladesh all-rounder Mehedi Hasan Miraz echoed similar sentiment of Shakib al Hasan that the year 2023 will see Bangladesh cricket make big achievements.
Bangladesh Test and Twenty20 international captain Shakib has been vocal in his belief amid the resignation of national head coach Russell Domingo.
Last week, Domingo resigned amid speculation that the Bangladesh Cricket Board had been mulling to sack him.
Domingo's decision had come just two days after the conclusion of the home series against India.
The South African flew back to his home right after the series where Bangladesh recorded a 2-1 win in the ODIs before losing both the Chittagong and Dhaka Test.
At this point Bangladesh cricket will have to spend the first three months of the year without a head coach with the players participating in the upcoming ninth Bangladesh Premier League T20.
Bangladesh will return to international cricket in February with white-ball series against England.
BCB will appoint a new coach before the arrival of the reigning ODI and T20 world champions.
Rumors are doing the rounds that BCB would bring back Chandika Hathurusingha, with the 2023 50-over World Cup slated for October-November in India.
“As a player, everyone knows about their own preparation and work. I know how to improve myself or what is my preparation. In the end the players have to play well. Their preparation is important,” Miraz told the media as he started practice for his BPL side Fortune Barishal at the BCB Academy Ground Monday.
“We have to work to fix the mistakes which we have done. Domestic cricket is a good place to know how your preparation is going on. It's the platform to know how we like to play or what problems we have,” the Bangladesh all-rounder added.
Miraz showed his improvement in white-ball cricket in 2022.
He scored 330 runs and took 24 wickets in 15 ODIs.
He also played two match-winning innings, helping Bangladesh win an ODI series against mighty India at home.
"We have a big event in 2023, the ODI World Cup. All our plans will be made centering around the World Cup. I will mentally prepare myself on how to improve. The World Cup is a big event. That's why you have to prepare in that way. It will be better for us if we start to prepare from now. If we can pull the consistency with which we have been playing then it will definitely be good for the team," he said.
Bangladesh have already qualified for the World Cup by showing consistent performances in the ODI Super League where they have 12 wins in 18 matches.
Still they have six matches – three against England and as many against Ireland.
"Even though we have already qualified, we need good results in these coming matches. If we do well, we will be able to strengthen our position and take good confidence to the ODI World Cup," he informed.
